7,000 Years of History · Cru des Côtes du Rhône
France's First AI-Powered Tourist Office
Perched on a rocky hilltop between two rivers in northern Provence, Cairanne has been inhabited for over 7,000 years. Romans planted the first vines here. Templars built the terraces. For five centuries the village answered to the Popes in Rome, not to France. Napoleon once signed a decree for this tiny commune. And in 1944, American GIs liberated its streets.
Today, just over 1,000 people call Cairanne home — winemakers, artisans, and families rooted here for generations. Its hand-harvested, 50% organic wines earned Cru status in 2016. But there's more: morning coffee at the Café de la Place, craft beer from the village brewery, sunset hikes through the vines, and stories that go back millennia.
